چکیده

Merge-and-shrink is a general method for deriving accurate abstraction heuristics. We present two novel nonlinear merging strategies, UMC and MIASM, based on variable interaction. The principle underlying our methods is to merge strongly interacting variables early on. UMC measures variable interaction by weighted causal graph edges, and MIASM measures variable interaction in terms of the number of necessary states in the abstract space defined by the variables. The methods partition variables into clusters in which the variable interactions are strong, and merge variables within each cluster before merging the clusters. Our experimental results show that our new merging strategies often produce better heuristics in terms of the number of nodes expanded by A∗. On certain IPC benchmark domains, tasks that cannot be solved by existing methods can be solved with minimum search effort using the heuristics created by our methods.

On the Expressive Power of Non-Linear Merge-and-Shrink Representations

We prove that general merge-and-shrink representations are strictly more powerful than linear ones by showing that there exist problem families that can be represented compactly with general merge-and-shrink representations but not with linear ones. We also give a precise bound that quantifies the necessary blowup incurred by conversions from general merge-and-shrink representations to linear r...

Factored Symmetries for Merge-and-Shrink Abstractions

Merge-and-shrink heuristics crucially rely on effective reduction techniques, such as bisimulation-based shrinking, to avoid the combinatorial explosion of abstractions. We propose the concept of factored symmetries for merge-andshrink abstractions based on the established concept of symmetry reduction for state-space search. We investigate under which conditions factored symmetry reduction yie...

Generalized Label Reduction for Merge-and-Shrink Heuristics

Label reduction is a technique for simplifying families of labeled transition systems by dropping distinctions between certain transition labels. While label reduction is critical to the efficient computation of merge-and-shrink heuristics, current theory only permits reducing labels in a limited number of cases. We generalize this theory so that labels can be reduced in every intermediate abst...

An Analysis of Merge Strategies for Merge-and-Shrink Heuristics

The merge-and-shrink framework provides a general basis for the computation of abstraction heuristics for factored transition systems. Recent experimental and theoretical research demonstrated the utility of non-linear merge strategies, which have not been studied in depth. We experimentally analyze the quality of state-of-the-art merge strategies by comparing them to random strategies and with...

Elastic analysis of Shrink-fitted Thick FGM Cylinders Based on Linear Plane Elasticity Theory

Nowadays, functionally graded materials (FGM) are widely used in many industrial, aerospace and military fields. On the other hand, the interest in the use of shrink-fitted assemblies is increasing for designing composite tubes, high-pressure vessels, rectors and tanks. Although extensive researches exist on thick-walled cylindrical shells, not many researches have been done on shrink-fitted th...
